Design Thinking: VIMMIA

In Graduate School, one of the buzzwords professors love to discuss is "Design Thinking." Design Thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding (Dam and Siang). Design Thinking enables a company to understand consumer needs to serve their audience better. For this project, I contacted different companies to learn how the organizations apply Design Thinking into their market offerings. I had the opportunity to talk with Brittany to learn more about the mission and vision of the VIMMIA. .

1. How is VIMMIA different from other fashion brands?

We’re different because we’re made in very small batches here in Los Angeles using a fabric that is exclusive to us- Vimmia X.

Technical and physiological benefits of Vimmia X fabric are:

  • Increased blood circulation

  • Improved blood flow and oxygenation to muscles and tissue allowing you to workout longer and harder

  • Increased recovery speed with greater workout efficiency, less muscle weakness and soreness after workouts

  • Reduced muscle vibration 4-way stretch for incomparable freedom of movement and comfort in wear

  • Reduction of cellulite and skin impurities

You may read more about this fabric on our site too- https://www.vimmia.com/pages/discover-vimmia-x

We also pride ourselves in being a very small company, which helps us keep an eye on every aspect of the development from design all the way to packing and shipping. We only have about 10 full-time employees, most of which who’ve been here for many years, so we operate with a lot of heart and passion for what we do.

2. How does VIMMIA stay ahead of upcoming fashion trends?

We try not to chase trees too hard, we believe that we have a great core product and handful of fabrics that our customers love. So, though we offer those in various styles based on the current selling seasons, they’re typically items that can be worn for a long time without going out of style, therefore, making them more sustainable in the long run.

3. How does VIMMIA incorporate its mission and vision into its product offerings?

To touch more on what we stated above, sustainability- we source local fabrics and use local production facilities in Los Angeles, when we do not produce directly in house. These fabrics are the highest quality available that ensure long wear and extreme comfort. Also, working with local vendors we know the manufacturing practices are more environmentally friendly due to the rules and regulations in California.

4. What is the future of the company?

I can say we took a major hit during the pandemic the last 2 years so, moving forward we will keep doing what we do best, design classic silhouettes using high quality goods with the hope we also get a bit more exposure and recognition through marketing and press.
