Philadelphia has always been the heart of American culture. Since the nation's inception, Philadelphia has been the epicenter of the American character. I had the chance to learn more about this city when I talked with Kyle Huff of Discover Philadelphia. Here is what I learned.
Why should someone visit Philadelphia ?
Philadelphia is the ONLY city in the U.S. to be selected by National Geographic’s travel experts for the 25 most exciting destinations for 2020. In 2021, the City of Brotherly Love made Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List. The publication asserts, “there’s really something special about Philadelphia,” citing the city’s parks, food and incomparable public art. And, of course, Philadelphia is home to iconic, unmatched historical attractions, world-renowned arts and cultural institutions, distinct neighborhoods, and walkable downtown.

How has Philadelphia adapted in the face of COVID-19?
Restaurants, hotels and attractions have all adopted safety protocols to allow visitors to enjoy all that Philadelphia has to offer. The city has adapted to create more outdoor dining options and creative physically distanced spaces for gathering.

What are the top sites anyone should see in Philadelphia ?
America’s most historic square mile features Independence Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site—where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were debated and adopted—along with the iconic Liberty Bell. Plus, the 72 “Rocky Steps” that lead to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, LOVE statue, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and more.

How has Philadelphia shifted its efforts during the pandemic?
Philadelphia turned to its partnership with its regional life sciences industry to create a core group of health advisors, representing public health, infectious disease, health care disparities and community outreach to advise on global, domestic travel to Philadelphia, along with convention and event business. What is the future of tourism in Philadelphia ?
Philadelphia is a popular destination with iconic history and an incredible range of attractions. During the pandemic, many visitors traveled within driving distance to Philadelphia to enjoy an extremely walkable city. You do not need a car to travel around Philadelphia. We expect that as travel restrictions are lifted that visitors will return to Philadelphia as most of our museums/attractions, hotels and restaurants have reopened.
